Llamas make wonderful pets as it is not difficult to care for them and they are gentle and fascinating. Also, they are fun to watch and are generally good with children. They are often used as therapy animals as well as perform a variety of other functions. Thus, they do well in weight pulling, packing, conformation, and serve as guards for sheep.
There are a few types of Llamas that vary in size and have different coat structures. Llamas come in a variety of colors, from white, blue, and gray, to black. They can also be spotted and have other markings. Ccara Llamas have usually short hairs, whereas Curaca Llamas are usually medium-coated. The coat is short or medium on the body and is very short on the head. Llamas can also be sub-divided into Tapadas and Lanudas.
The type of Llama you should buy depends on your taste and functions for which you are expecting your future Llama to perform. Pet quality Llamas are generally less expensive than those used in conformation and breeding. These animals are generally resistant to many diseases found in common livestock.
These animals are intelligent and can be easily trained. Many breeders supply training advice and also provide trekking services. In fact, the Llama is not hard to manage and even inexperienced owners can quickly learn to control it. Ease of control is probably a result of the Llamas' friendly and gentle nature as well as their close co-existence with man for thousands of years.
